A Family concert featuring
Noune Karapetian and Friends
Review by Jennifer Gosdanian

This concert was a celebration of the release of Noune Karapetian's children's CD "Tsapik, Tsapik" and was featuring songs from the CD. About 15 people were in the cast, including 6 adorable children ages 5-9. The four major animal characters each had a distinctive personality, the Frog Krko was big and shy and loved to eat, the Elephant Jstik was a hip-hop loving teenager, full of energy, the Little Partridge was a beautiful ballerina, the Cat Mlavik was afraid of everything, even mice. There was a high-spirited, very funny and very old Grandma, an Uncle who sold yogurt from house to house and much more. All that on top of the fact that Noune, being a successful operatic singer, professionally trained at the prestigious Komitas National Conservatory of Armenia made the whole show come together with her superb acting and entertaining abilities and a first class voice. She had contagious enthusiasm that made everyone want to participate, not just the children but even grandparents and parents were up dancing and doing all the movements in the action songs and having a grand time.

Tamar Melkonian of Arev folk ensemble harmonized with Noune and showed great talent herself in both acting and singing.

The show was done in Armenian with some short English translations. Even the audience members who didn't know Armenian could easily follow the action and had a great time, like 4-year-old Georgy and his mother Eka, from Georgia.  "I think the show can be easily marketed to non-Armenian population", she said, "we had a great time, even though we don't speak a word of Armenian!"

"We enjoyed the concert so much. I brought my one-year-old and he was enthralled. Hopefully his screaming in delight when the animals came on stage was not too distracting for the performers", said Amy.

The scenery was very cute. With a big house and a tree as a constant backdrops with laundry hanging from a string in between. I can't remember laughing and jumping as much as I did with this show. Tsapikner is hilarious, tuneful, splendid entertainment, with cute tunes like "Chop-Chop," "Klorik em Tmblik,", Choo-choo," by Noune Karapetian combined with some traditional songs like "Kakavik," and "Arev, Arev"

This thoroughly engaging show is by far the funniest Armenian kids show to hit the stage in decades, it's a genuine crowd pleaser of the first order. The audience really showed its appreciation towards the performance as well.

We hope that this wonderful family concert sponsored by Amaras Art Alliance and Hovannes Badalian Music Fund in Boston will have a successful run hear in America and abroad; it is that funny. To get Noune's CD "Tsapik, Tsapik" log on to her website at www.NouneMusic.com
